Cub Scouting relies on volunteers to be pack leaders. Volunteers come from all backgrounds and experiences. People from just about every occupation imaginable are involved in leading youth to become responsible, caring, and competent citizens. They also quickly discover that Scout volunteering lets them learn new skills and build lifelong friendships while having fun.
True youth protection can be achieved only through the focused commitment of everyone in Scouting. It is the mission of Youth Protection volunteers and professionals to work within Scouting America to maintain a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety at the national, regional, area, council, district, and unit levels.
Wood Badge teaches contemporary leadership and team-building skills in a comfortable outdoor setting, where learners become members of their own Troop. Wood Badge’s effectiveness as an effective leadership development experience has been applauded by industry training professionals. Its positive influence on graduates’ individual unit-level program is unparalleled.
Scouts BSA offers training courses for every position within the Pack, and though Youth Protection Training is the only required training course we encourage our leaders to take the training course applicable to their position(s).
The Longhorn Council’s University of Scouting volunteers are deeply committed to advancing educational excellence and preparing participants to become well rounded, knowledgeable, leaders in all aspects of Scouting.
Generally meeting once a month our District Roundtable Commissioner hosts a meeting for all Scouting America Leaders to share tips and ideas for every walk of scouting. This is an amazing way to meet other local leaders and get some insight in how other packs and troops function across the District.
